The MDE immediately contacted the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company who received additional support from the Preston Volunteer Fire Company. Together they located the source of the petroleum and immediately deployed absorbent control devices to protect the creek and the area surrounding it. The Miller Environmental Group has been retained to oversee and complete all cleanup efforts. Choptank Fusion LLC assisted in the testing of underground lines and equipment.
The source was found to be a petroleum release from the Tri Gas & Oil Federalsburg bulk yard on Federalsburg Highway. Tri Gas & Oil sincerely apologizes for this unfortunate incident and is thankful for the combined efforts of the MDE, our local Fire Companies, The Miller Environmental Group and Choptank Fusion LLC.
“Tri Gas & Oil is committed to the environment and keeping it safe for our customers and area wildlife. We are committed to taking every precaution and safety measure to guarantee the wetlands we love are safe for animals and people alike. We are saddened that this situation has occurred and are grateful for all efforts in protecting the creek and its surrounding habitats,” says Keith McMahan, Chairman of Tri Gas & Oil.
